Charles Culton

Charles Culton has been a Safety Specialist with the Michigan Center for Truck Safety providing training and information on both state and federal motor carrier safety regulations. Prior to his employment with the Center for Truck Safety, Charles worked for Lansing Community College in their Continuing Education/Community Education Department.

From 1972 until his retirement in 2002, he was employed as a Motor Carrier Officer and commander with the Michigan State Police serving in Detroit, Pontiac, New Baltimore, Paw Paw and Headquarters. In his 30 year career with the Michigan State Police he held the rank of Officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant (District Commander) and Inspector (Asst. Division Commander) specializing in motor carrier enforcement and regulations. He was the technical expert for the Michigan House and Senate on commercial vehicle regulations and safety.

He is a Graduate of Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command and was awarded the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administrations Leadership Award and the Michigan Traffic Safety Commissions Award of Excellence.

Driver Vehicle Inspection Requirements

This 50-Minute presentation provides the participant with information on driver pre- and post-trip inspection requirements found in Part 393 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations as well as Periodic Inspection (annual) requirements and record keeping requirements found in Part 396 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. All participants will receive a copy of the presentation, a Vehicle Inspection DVD and a copy of the Michigan Truck Drivers Guidebook.
