Understanding Tree Risk – Are Tree Incidents Predictable?
All trees pose some level of risk. Fortunately, tree failures are uncommon—but when they happen, the results can be serious. This presentation explores the conditions that increase the likelihood of failure and other factors considered when assessing tree risk.

Kay has evolved in her career from plant health care manager and head diagnostician to tree risk assessment and management, to supervising city forestry crews responsible for 50,000 street trees, to working on cases involving trees. These are not stepping stones for Kay; she values all aspects of arboriculture and urban forestry and enjoys the work. She is a long-time volunteer sitting on the TREEFund Grants Committee and on boards of ISA Michigan, Society of Commercial Arboriculture and current ASCA.
In addition, her regular gig as Senior Consulting Arborist for SavATree Consulting Group, Kay teaches industry-related community college courses, a Certified Arborist prep course, and has given dozens of presentations at local and national conferences.
