Mulches are an important component in horticulture; enhancing the overall sustainability of both production and landscape systems. Their use provides a multitude of ecosystem services that contribute to a healthy environment by enhancing aesthetics, enriching our soils and aiding plant growth. We will discuss the facts and dispel the fiction associated with mulch types, colorants, soil properties, insects and diseases, nutrient cycling as well as examine problems and share solutions.
